Habitat for Humanity of Smith County is marking a special milestone. Its critical repair program, called ReHabitat, has completed $10 million worth of repairs since 2009. The grant-funded program allows people to stay in their homes with projects like replacing roofs and renovating bathrooms. Certain grants are only for veterans, so the ReHabitat team might work to make their houses accessible, according to Smith County Habitat CEO Jack Wilson.

The value of the repairs alone is “quite an accomplishment,” Wilson said. At a rate of about 100 projects a year, 1,300 houses and 1,600 lives have been impacted since the program began.
