Mike Landess, News Director and Host of UT Tyler Radio Connects

Mike is a seasoned television and radio anchor, reporter, producer, writer and editor with nearly 6 decades of experience. His career began in Tyler radio while he was a high school senior. His first television experience came at KLTV in Tyler as well. During his career, he’s been honored with nearly two dozen Emmys from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS).

Five of those were for were for “Best Anchor” in Washington D.C., Atlanta and Denver. Another of those Emmys was for his multi-part reports on his fight with prostate cancer. Those reports were later published on DVD by the Prostate Conditions Council and sent to patients around the world. 

He’s also received six Edward R. Murrow Awards, two of which were for coverage of the 9/11 attacks in Washington D.C. and New York. He’s been inducted into the NATAS Silver Circle, the Denver Press Club Hall of Fame and the Broadcast Pioneers of Colorado Hall of Fame.

Mike is the host and producer of UT Tyler Radio Connects for UT Tyler Radio as well as the station’s primary local news anchor/producer. He also anchors special events as well as reporting on local and breaking news.
