UT Tyler President Kirk Calhoun, in an email addressed to faculty and staff Wednesday, said the COVID Response Team has concluded standing meetings but is ready to reactivate if the need arises.

Calhoun welcomed the beginning of a new academic period and reminded employees “to take the necessary precautions to ensure a healthy and successful year.”

“It’s apparent preventive measures – washing hands, covering sneezes/coughs, social distancing, vaccinations, etc. – have proven to be successful in slowing the spread of viruses. Be diligent about your practices,” Calhoun, a medical doctor, said in the message.

He urged colleagues to stay home if they don’t feel well. He also asked faculty to “work with students who test positive to maintain coursework and refer them to existing campus resources for support.”

Faculty return to campus Aug. 15, and classes begin Aug. 22.
